Frequently Asked Questions
How long is a counselling session?Just under an hour: 50 minutes.
What times are you available?
I work mostly within office hours and can usually offer appointments Monday to Thursday between 8am and 5pm. I also have some early evening appointments available.
How much does it cost?
I charge £45 for sessions up to 5pm, and £50 from 6pm onwards. I can consider a lower fee for sessions between 9am and 4pm.
How do I pay?
You pay at the end of each session, by cash or cheque.
How long does counselling go on for?
At our first session, you will get an idea of how I work. After that, you can decide whether you wish to return for further sessions. If you decide to continue, we can talk further at the next session about what might be involved.
Counselling can last for anything between a week or two, and a year or more. We can talk about how it's going after the first six weeks or so, and at regular intervals after that.

How can talking help?
Have you at any time experienced the way it can help to talk a problem through with a friend? Counselling is a bit like that, but more structured: it's confidential, and the counsellor should be a member of a reputable counselling organisation with a code of ethics.
Clients often say they feel 'lighter' after just talking to me about what's going on for them.
None of what you talk about will get back to your friends, family, or colleagues, unless you speak to them yourself.
It has been shown in research that the most consistently useful element of counselling is the relationship between the counsellor and the 'client'. The counsellor is 'alongside' you while you work out a way forward that feels right for you - you are the expert on you!
I would not normally advise you what to do - unless you come to me with specific questions about sexual issues.
